Lent Lunches

Daniel Blake

The Methodist Lent lunches will be held on Thursdays during Lent, 12 – 1.30, doing a study on the film ‘I Daniel Blake’ called ‘Nothing more, nothing less’ and sharing a light bread and cheese lunch together.  All are welcome.  The Methodist Church is in Scott Street.

Scone welcomes its new minister

Rev Maudeen MacDougall will be inducted as the new minister of Scone and St Martin churches on Wednesday 27 February 2019 at Scone New Church at 7 pm. This will be followed by refreshments in the halls. She will be ‘preached into’ her new charge at Scone Old on Sunday 3 March 2019 at 10.45am This will be followed by refreshments.

PACT Collection goes to four worthy charities

The Carol service collection amounted to over £1400.  After expenses, we are able to give £300 each to CATH, Starter Packs, The Harbour Counselling Service and Mary’s Meals.  We also thank St John’s, Melville Street, for their warm hospitality,  Rev Steven Canon Mulholland for his homily, and Michael Ellacott and Susan Cassidy for the music which enhanced the service.

Congratulations also to Susan on receiving  the Papal medal in recognition of her service and commitment over the years. 

The Little Book of Lent

Jennie Dawson invites anyone  interested to join an ecumenical group to use “The Little Book of Lent” – daily readings and prayers, with the group meeting once a week to discuss insights etc.  The book costs £4.99 and is available online or from Waterstones.   Please let Jennie know if you are interested – jenniferdawson22@yahoo.co.uk.  If more than 8 people get in touch we will have more than one group!

PACT Carol Service 2018

The 2018 PACT Carol Service was held in St John’s RC Church, Perth, on Friday 21st December. The Rev Graham Taylor (St John’s Episcopal Church), PACT Convener, welcome a congregation drawn from local churches. Lessons were read by Jenny Dawson (St John’s RC Church) and the Rev Kelvin Bristol (Perth Methodist Church) and the address was given by the Very Rev. Steven Canon Mulholland.

The combined choir was directed by Michael Ellacott and accompanied by Susan Cassidy at the organ.

Marjorie Clark (St Matthew’s Church of Scotland), Secretary of PACT, outlined the work carried out by the four charities which had been selected to received the collection which was uplifted during the service. The selected charities were Churches Action for the Homeless (CATH), Perth Starter Packs, The Harbour Counselling Service in Perth and Mary’s Meals.

Last year’s charities, Living Waters, EMMS International and Perth and Kinross Foodbank received £300 each.

Before giving the blessing, the Rev Graham Taylor thanked Canon Steven for his inspired reflection, and also all who had contributed to the occasion through their preparations and participation.

Jambouree Concert

The Jambouree Choir and Cabaret Singers, directed by Edna Auld, invite you to ‘Step into Christmas’ with the their season offering at St Leonard-in-the-Fields, at 7pm on Sunday 16th December. Tickets at the door – or from Concorde Music Shop in advance. £10 adults – children £5.

Shawl Ministry

Perth Shawl Ministry has been busy knitting angels;  they have a good number of these, and they are available to any churches who may wish to use them in the lead up to Christmas

Toy Appeal

 The Salvation Army are once again doing their Christmas toy appeal for families who may be unable to afford gifts for their children. Toys can be donated in at The Salvation Army at 77, South Street, up until 14th December, with it being items for both boys and girls aged anywhere from birth to 16 collected and then distributed.
